In keeping with our tradition of serving up choice, in-universe cold cuts (pun not intended) to go with the IRL winter festivities, we’re concluding 2016, and incidentally also the Tessier-Ashpool Research & Development series, in style – a chilling ambient twofer from the Dual Shaman boys to provide context for their upcoming 2017 full-length debut.

“Khorostasia”, which approximates to “carols” in English, is just that – the acousmatic subversion of a devotional choral piece, filtered through the brothers’ penchant for coaxing verdant futurism from the otherwise dry rock of pre-classical, Byzantine ecclesiastics.

Accompanying track “Space Elevator Music” does pretty much what is cheekily says on the tin – channelling the demurer, acid-jazz-inflected works of soundtrack heavyweights such as Nobuo Uematsu or Norihiko Hibino, one could easily imagine listening to this while escaping the gravity well in a reinforced glass cube.
